Any Cenimar trader can play the role of Market Maker by buying shares
on the open market and reselling them. However an Official Market Maker
at Cenimar has special privileges.
The main Official Market Maker privilege is the ability to purchase a Bundle of
Options for I$10.00 per bundle. (A Bundle of Options is comprised of one share of each Option.)
Normal traders buy shares from other traders (some of whom might be Market Makers).
This type of trade does not create new shares. It simply transfers shares from one
trader to another.
When an Official Market Maker purchases a Bundle of Options then one share of each Option
is created in exchange for the I$10.00 cost.
The Official Market Maker is purchasing these shares in order to sell them
(at a profit) to other traders. There would be no advantage for the Market Maker
to simply hold the shares until the Contract settled. Because at that point the
complete Bundle would be worth exactly I$10.00 - and so no profit would be gained.
Another benefit for Official Market Makers is the
Market Maker View.
It's
a report that combines your portfolio with your open offers. It makes it just
a little bit simpler to keep track of multiple offers per Contract.
